About the Government vs ICT Industry Trivia Night

About ICT Industry Qld

ICT Industry Queensland is a volunteer-run community of people from Queensland Government, TAFE Queensland, and ICT industry working to build the partnerships, pipeline, and conversations the sector depends on.

Our flagship initiative is the Government vs ICT Industry Trivia Night — a Brisbane evening that's been bringing these three groups into the same room for more than a decade. But the work doesn't stop on the night. Across the year, we keep the conversation going.Impact

At the 2025 event, the organising committee presented a cheque for $89,338.43 to the TAFE Queensland Foundation. These funds support approximately 10 scholarships, helping students complete ICT accreditations through the Access and Equity program, directly contributing to Queensland’s future technology workforce.

What we do

🎟️ Run the Government vs ICT Industry Trivia Night. A volunteer-built annual event that raises funds for TAFE Queensland Access and Equity Scholarships — and brings hundreds of Queensland public sector, industry, and education people into one room.

🤝 Broker conversations between government, industry, and TAFE Queensland. We work closely with TAFE Queensland and the Queensland Government to make sure industry, education, and the public sector talk to each other — and that the conversation produces real outcomes for the people coming through, the businesses hiring them, and the agencies they'll serve.

👥 Back the volunteer community. The committee that runs ICT Industry Queensland is itself a working example of what we believe in — gov, industry, and TAFE people, working together, on their own time, for the sector they share..

The Trivia Night

Now in its second decade, the Trivia Night is the largest and longest-running event of its kind in Queensland ICT. It exists because government and industry need to know each other as people — not just across an RFP — and because the friction between the two sectors costs the state more than most people realise.

The event brings together Queensland public sector teams, ICT industry organisations, and TAFE Queensland staff and students for a night of trivia, networking, prizes, and fundraising — in support of TAFE Queensland Access and Equity Scholarships.

What to expect on the night

🏆 Friendly rivalry — Government vs industry teams compete for bragging rights and the perpetual trophy

🎁 Prizes, raffles, and auctions — Generous donations from sponsors mean serious prizes

🤝 Real community — A volunteer-run event that brings together the people who quietly make QLD ICT work

Your Impact

What your support funded in 2025

$89,338.43 Raised for TAFE Queensland Access and Equity Scholarships

Funding around 10 students through their ICT qualifications — students who might not otherwise have had the financial means to study. These are the people the Queensland ICT industry will hire from in two to four years.

The more we raise, the more students we put through.

Working with Government and TAFE Queensland

ICT Industry Queensland sits in a deliberately unusual position: a working bridge between the Queensland public sector, the ICT industry, and TAFE Queensland.

We work closely with the Queensland Government and TAFE Queensland because the relationship between those three groups is the one Queensland ICT actually runs on — and the one most likely to break down quietly when nobody's tending it.

Practically, that means:

  • Brokering industry-TAFE conversations on what skills the sector actually needs — so curriculum reflects real industry demand rather than drifting toward what's easiest to teach

  • Surfacing industry voices to government in the kind of informal settings where genuine intel actually gets exchanged

  • Connecting employers with TAFE Queensland students through internships, mentorships, hiring, and the scholarship program

  • Maintaining a shared community that doesn't disappear between procurement cycles or election cycles

If you've got a view on what an entry-level ICT hire should walk in the door knowing, what the industry-TAFE relationship needs more of, or how the public sector and ICT industry can work together better — get in touch. That's exactly the kind of conversation we exist to broker.

The Committee

ICT Industry Queensland is coordinated by a volunteer committee with members from across Queensland Government, TAFE Queensland, and leading ICT organisations.
